Checked vs. carry-on

At the airport.

Checked luggage:
Advantages:
Unencumbered while at gates, or on board plane
Can transport more items
Disadvantages:
Risk of airlines losing/misrouting/delaying luggage
Risk of airlines damaging luggage or its contents
Risk of theft

Carry-on:
Advantages:
Know where your possessions are at all times
Forced to pack lighter as a result of choosing to go all carry-on
Disadvantages:
Forced to pack lighter as a result of choosing to go all carry-on
If traveling alone, forced to stay with your bags at the gate or lug everything with you while you shop or go to the restroom

I don't know!

1(20.0%)
I regularly check some bags, and also bring a large-sized carry-on and personal item aboard the plane
4(80.0%)
Other [please explain]

For clarity:
"to check"  - To consign (luggage, for example) for shipment on a transportation vehicle: checked her bags and boarded the plane.

Another disadvantage with carryon - no scissors, pocket knife, knitting needles and other such deadly weapons.

I always try NOT to check in luggage if I can help it. But I don't go anywhere for long periods of time and always make sure I have laundry facilities close by.

I will always fly with a change of clothes in my carryon, but I hate the hassle of lugging a huge carry on around the airport.

There is nothing worse than having your flight delayed and having to pull a big carryon with you everywhere. Been there, done that. HATE IT.

The chance of your flight being delayed and having to sit with your luggage is much higher than a chance of theft.

So, if I have to upgrade my suitcase size to anything over my small one, I will check it. Otherwise, I'll carryon

Have you ever entrusted a stranger to watch your bags for you while you went to ... pick up food, restroom, whatever?
