Toys!

The Sony Vaio X505. I want it! Thanks.

1.73 pounds! Also $4000.

The Olympus C-750 I want has dropped in price. From about $600 to about $550, but I found a bunch for around $385. And I'm still not buying it. Why? No idea.

Rubber ducky, you're the one!

The display is only 10.4" or something! Ack.

Eh.. I wouldn't pay that much just for a couple pounds lighter. You can get a laptop with much better specs, for half that price.

I guess if you were always walking around or something it would be good. *shrug*

I'm all about the elven lightness. And I am pretty much always walking around. Of course, personally I wouldn't pay that much for it.. maybe when the price goes down.. or something. I was thinking of the 12" Apple Powerbook G4, but that's 4.6 pounds.. going into the store and hefting it gave me the idea that it still wasn't ideal for me :(

I used my current laptop for weight to put in my rucksack for our ruck marches. Probably weighs about 10 pounds or something. Okay, maybe 7. Dunno, never really weighed it and can't seem to pull up specs on it. But it's a BITCH to take around town, and on trips, whatnot.

1.7 pounds!!!

Run from the Viao!!!
My last laptop was a Sony Vaio -- the quality sucked. I'd seriously rethink your wish :)

I used it for personal stuff, it hardly ever left the house and in 3 years I: replaced the keyboard twice (the same keys kept dying), replaced the power system twice (the ac pac just would stop working), replaced the battery once (and then gave up).

The screen was great, the speed okay -- but WAY too much upkeep involved for something that was handled with kid gloves. I can't imagine what would happen to it in an actual travel situation.

My current work laptop is a Dell Latitude -- VERY light. You may want to check those out.

Re: Run from the Viao!!!
Ouch! Sounds like a horror story to me. I give you lots of credit for putting up with it through so many difficulties. I usually stay away from Sony computers as a rule only because of the one factor of price, but I figured, Missy uses the Vaio... could check it out.

I was actually looking at Dell previously as well. Right now the Latitude X300 looks pretty good, 2.9 lbs, only thing I can think of that it's missing is a Firewire port...
Same goes for the Inspiron 300m I was looking at earlier.

Also, I'm not a big fan of the trackpad. :(

Thanks for the advice.. I will have to keep it in mind as I shop.
