"Up until weighted student formula, everyone knew we sort of cockroached from the big schools to give to the little schools. But no one knew how much. So when we went to a very clear measure of dollars per-student, it became obvious," Campbell said.
(emphasis added)

This is the first time I've seen this word used... ever.  Even looking it up on google, it was a while before I got a definition.  There was an entry at the urban dictionary saying that it was "Hawaiian pidgin" meaning "steal."

Ok, yeah, this is Hawaii, but I've still never heard this word used before............ OH MY GOD.  YOU MEAN IT'S ACTUALLY SPELLED "COCKROACH" AND NOT "COCKAROACH," THE WAY WE SAY IT?  HOLY HELL---------ARE WE SAYING THE WORD WRONG TOO??????????

Re: Coincidence?
Props! If it would have been me up there instead of you, I would totally be writing "cockaroach" and INSISTING that it was spelled that way!

Don't feel bad...
I've heard cockroach or 'cockaroach' used that way before, but I've never heard of the word 'pake' until last year. If you don't know what that means, hint: you're one.
